Position Summary

The Head Stocker is responsible for leading the grocery stocking team to ensure products are received, stocked, rotated, and merchandised according to company standards. This position supports inventory accuracy, maintains shelf conditions, promotes a safe work environment, and helps ensure customers have access to a fully stocked and organized store. The Head Stocker provides leadership, training, and daily direction to stock crew associates while assisting store management in achieving operational and sales goals.

Key Responsibilities Stocking & Inventory Management

  • Lead daily stocking activities throughout assigned areas of the store.
  • Ensure merchandise is stocked, faced, and rotated according to company standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate out-of-stock conditions to management.
  • Verify product placement, shelf integrity, and pricing accuracy.
  • Assist with receiving, unloading, and processing deliveries.
  • Support inventory counts and inventory control initiatives.

Team Leadership

  • Provide daily direction, training, and coaching to stock crew associates.
  • Assign work tasks and monitor completion to ensure productivity goals are achieved.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new associates.
  • Communicate department priorities and expectations effectively.

Merchandising & Store Presentation

  • Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked sales floors.
  • Ensure displays, end caps, and promotional merchandise are properly executed.
  • Monitor product presentation and shelf conditions throughout the day.
  • Support seasonal and special merchandising programs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve product visibility and sales.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, operational procedures, and safety standards.
  • Maintain organized backrooms, storage areas, and receiving areas.
  • Support proper handling of damaged, discontinued, and returned merchandise.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records and stock levels.
  • Collaborate with department managers to support overall store operations.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow and enforce workplace safety practices.
  • Ensure safe operation of equipment including pallet jacks, ladders, and stocking tools.
  • Maintain clear aisles and safe storage conditions.
  • Report hazards, accidents, and maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.

Customer Service

  • Provide friendly and professional customer service.
  • Assist customers in locating products and answering questions.
  • Respond to customer concerns promptly and courteously.
  • Support a positive shopping experience through excellent store conditions.
  • Promote a customer-focused culture among stock crew associates.

Qualifications Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous retail, grocery, warehouse, or stocking experience.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic math and inventory management skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays.

Preferred

  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Experience in grocery store operations and merchandising.
  • Knowledge of inventory control, receiving, and stocking procedures.
  • Familiarity with workplace safety practices and equipment operation.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of up to 60 pounds.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, including refrigerated and freezer areas.
  • Ability to safely operate stocking and material-handling equipment.
  • Manual dexterity required for stocking, pricing, and inventory-related tasks.
