Head Teacher for Full Day Fives

The Full Day Fives Teacher is responsible for creating and leading a dynamic, child-centered classroom for children approximately five years of age. In this Reggio- inspired classroom the educator will act as a facilitator of learning, designing meaningful learning experiences that support children's social-emotional growth, emerging academic readiness, creativity, and independence.\n \nThis role requires strong knowledge of child development, emergent curriculum, project-based learning, documentation, and family partnership. In the KinderPlace Program, every educator views children as capable, competent learners and uses observation to guide curriculum decisions.\n \nEssential Responsibilities\n \nCurriculum & Instruction\n\n Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences aligned with the interests of each child\n Design emergent, inquiry-based curriculum using observations of children's questions, ideas, and play.\n Facilitate long-term project work that integrates literacy, math, science, art, and social studies.\n Support kindergarten readiness through hands-on, purposeful learning experiences meeting each child where they are\n Provide opportunities for children to express ideas through multiple mediums ("hundred languages"), including art, movement, dramatic play, construction, writing, and conversation.\n \nObservation & Documentation\n\n Observe children closely to assess development, interests, and learning styles.\n Document learning through photographs, dictations, displays, and written reflections.\n Use documentation to inform planning, communicate learning to families, and make children's thinking visible.\n \nClassroom Environment\n\n Create a welcoming, organized indoor and outdoor classroom environment that functions as the "third teacher."\n Maintain engaging learning areas with open-ended materials, natural elements, and provocations that encourage exploration.\n Ensure materials are accessible, intentional, and reflective of children's current investigations and philosophy of KinderPlace\n \nSocial-Emotional Development\n\n Foster a classroom community grounded in respect, empathy, inclusion, and collaboration.\n Support conflict resolution, self-regulation, independence, and positive peer relationships.\n Use responsive guidance practices and developmentally appropriate behavior support.\n \nFamily Partnerships\n\n Build respectful, collaborative relationships with families.\n Communicate regularly regarding classroom experiences, child progress, and school events.\n Conduct conferences and share documentation of learning.\n Invite family voice, culture, and participation into classroom life.\n \nTeam Collaboration\n\n Work closely with co-teachers, specialists, and administration.\n Participate in reflective planning meetings and professional dialogue.\n \nHealth, Safety & Operations\n\n Maintain compliance with all licensing, health, and safety regulations.\n Supervise children indoors, outdoors, and during transitions.\n Ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained classroom environment.\n Perform routine duties including arrival, dismissal, snack/lunch supervision, and toileting support as needed.\n \nMinimum Qualifications:\n \nEducation\n\n Bachelor's degree in:\n Early Childhood Education \n Child Development \n Elementary Education with early childhood coursework \n Related field \n \n\n \nPreferred qualifications often include:\n\n Connecticut Early Childhood Teacher Credential \n Connecticut teaching certification with early childhood endorsement \n Master's degree \n \nExperience\n\n 2+ years teaching preschool or pre-k age children\n Experience with:\n emergent curriculum \n Reggio Emilia-inspired practices \n play-based learning \n project-based learning \n kindergarten readiness skills \n \n\n \nRequired Knowledge and Skills\n\n Strong understanding of child development ages 4-6 \n Ability to create developmentally appropriate curriculum \n Classroom management skills using positive guidance \n Experience documenting children's learning and progress \n Strong communication with families \n Collaboration with co-teachers and specialists\n \nTechnology and Documentation\n\n Ability to use classroom documentation platforms \n Written observations and assessments \n Portfolio documentation and parent communication tools \n\n
