Head Teacher, Preschool

Augustana University invites applications for the position of Head Preschool Teacher in the Campus Learning Center. This is a full-time, 12-month position with a standard schedule of 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The Head Preschool Teacher plays a key role in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children ages 3-5. This position works in partnership with families and staff to support each child's physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development, fostering independence, belonging, and a love of learning.

The duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

• Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum and lesson plans that support core Kindergarten readiness academics.
• Create and maintain a positive, structured classroom environment that encourages learning, creativity, and exploration
• Plan and manage daily schedules and activities that promote children's wellbeing and developmental progress
• Communicate regularly and professionally with parents/guardians regarding student progress, classroom activities, and Center updates
• Prepare and present child progress evaluations and participate in parent/teacher conferences
• Maintain accurate and timely records related to attendance, nutrition, health, and student needs
• Supervise and mentor student assistants, including scheduling support and contributing to performance feedback
• Ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary classroom environment through daily organization and maintenance practices
• Support family engagement opportunities such as open houses and community events
• Comply with all Campus Learning Center policies, University procedures, and state childcare regulations

Required Qualifications:

• Experience in early childhood development or an elementary education environment
• Experience in a childcare or related setting and/or an associate's degree in early childhood development

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field

Working Environment & Physical Requirements:

• Regular interaction with children, families, and staff in a childcare setting
• Ability to work in a busy, active, and occasionally noisy environment
• Occassional heavy lifting
