Primary Purpose

To coach and manage the Women's Basketball program.

Description of Essential Functions

Coach, Coordinate, and Supervise Women's Basketball Program (50% of Time)

  • Coach the Women's Basketball team, providing guidance to players' academic and athletic experience.
  • Recruit student athletes to join the team to complete a full roster (15), which is necessary to compete in the NWAC each academic year.
  • Assign athletic waivers/grants to eligible student athletes.
  • Manage the budget associated with the program.
  • Determine student eligibility for participation.
  • Monitor student athletes' academic progress, providing appropriate academic supervision to ensure student success and completion of degree or certificate requirements.
  • Make travel arrangements for away games and matches.
  • Develop home and away participation schedules and expectations.

General Duties (50% of Time)

  • Ensure compliance with all rules, regulations, and policies outlined in the Southwestern Athletic Department Coaches Handbook and by NWAC.
  • Demonstrate continued professional growth by staying current in and expanding knowledge of soccer coaching techniques through a plan of professional development.
  • Attend scheduled athletic contests, attend professional conferences and required institutional meetings, assist with game management as necessary and other duties as assigned.
  • Support College leadership in developing departmental goals and objectives as part of the institution's continuous improvement cycle; includes participating in the college wide accreditation process by performing departmental planning, assessment, and improvement to meet core theme objectives and contribute to mission fulfillment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: A minimum of an Associate's Degree in Physical Education, Health, related field, or in specific academic areas.

Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of coaching Basketball.

  • Ability to consistently convey a pleasant and helpful attitude by using excellent interpersonal and communication skills to control sometimes stressful and emotional situations. Requires sufficient communication and human relations skills to resolve complaints/issues, defuse anger, and gain cooperation. Working knowledge of and a commitment to NWAC intercollegiate soccer rules and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of and a commitment to intercollegiate eSports rules and regulations. Demonstrated success in recruiting a full roster of athletes specifically for collegiate level eSports programs.
  • Working knowledge of and a commitment to NWAC intercollegiate soccer rules and regulations. Demonstrated success in recruiting a full roster of athletes specifically for collegiate level Soccer programs.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and work independently to accomplish those procedures.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and carry out activities independently. Strong time management skills to support efficient work production and meet deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to manage a flexible work schedule with self-discipline, including travel, various hours and possible weekends/evenings, as well as work days at other College locations.
  • Exhibit a high level of technology literacy, including knowledge of retail systems and computer software and hardware. Ability to use internet searching, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel as needed. Able to learn and function in the College's information management system and learn new software as needed.
  • Ability to model and ensure diversity and cultural competency (respect, inclusiveness, reflecting, valuing, and welcoming cultural differences) in all position responsibilities regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, social class, sexual orientation, ability, nationality, age, language, origin, or employment status. Applicants for this position possessing one or more of the following knowledge, skills and abilities will receive preferred consideration through the selection process:

  • Demonstrated success in coaching adult student-athletes.
  • Demonstrated success in coaching Basketball at the College level.
