What You'll Do:

Salem Public Schools is looking for a secondary certified Health & Wellness Teacher to teach health education to students in grades 9-12. This educator will inspire, empower, and challenge our students to pursue excellence in reaching their potential to become health literate adults.

Rolls and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes, and develops an understanding of the relationship of the whole child, the physical, mental and emotional health of students. The teacher will be responsible for:

• creating engaging lessons and activities as part of a skills-based, comprehensive health education program that favors learning and personal growth that leads to health literacy.
• establish positive relationships with students
• allow opportunities for students to develop, learn, practice, and become proficient in skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to become health literate.
• develop skills-based performance assessments that gauge student growth around knowledge and skill development.
• maintain a safe, positive learning environment that meets the needs of all learners.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor''s Degree (Required); Master's Degree (Preferred)
• Required Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Health Education
• Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement (Required within 1-year of start date)
• Highly trained in health education
• Use a student-centered approach to health education
• Incorporate components of the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child framework to demonstrate how vital coordination of school health initiatives
• Align their curriculum to the National and State Health Education Standards with a focus on Standards 2-8 (skills).
• Minimum of 2 years teaching experience and working in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred.
• Proficiency with technology (blended learning, teacher/family communication suites (Remind preferred), Google G-Suite Apps, etc.) desirable.
• Second language (Spanish and/or Portuguese) proficiency a plus
• Bilingual candidates and candidates of color strongly encouraged to apply
• Current authorization to work in the United States

Work Year: Teachers in Salem Public Schools work a 185 day school year (180 student contact days plus 5 professional development days. Please click here to view the 2026-27 district and/or school calendars.

Salary: Teacher salaries in the Salem Public Schools are determined by the Salem Teachers Union collective bargaining agreement (2024-2027). Salary information can be found in Appendix A.
