Reports to: Building Principal & School Nurse
Responsibilities/Requirements
- Hours:
- 7:45 AM-3:45 PM.
- 5 days per week.
- Work together with all other corporation employees toward the mission of the school.
- Provide emotional support and be warm and nurturing to all students and parents.
- Demonstrate the ability to deal with sensitive issues in a tactful and professional manner..
- Greet guests to the office and callers in a warm, courteous and professional manner.
- Assist with elementary office duties when assigned such as providing a lunch break for the building secretary and assisting during high traffic times.
- Answer telephones promptly, take messages, and direct calls to appropriate parties.
- The employee must remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the corporation.
- Perform all other duties assigned by the Principal and/or School Nurse.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or School Nurse.
Student Health Services
- Assess, treat, and monitor student illnesses and injuries occurring during the school day.
- Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and school policies.
- Maintain individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic health conditions.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid and emergency care as needed.
- Monitor students with special healthcare needs and coordinate appropriate accommodations.
Health Records and Compliance
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
- Conduct health screenings, including vision, hearing, and other required assessments.
- Track and report communicable diseases and health concerns with school nurse according to public health guidelines.
Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns, injuries, illnesses, and healthcare needs.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, and special education staff to support student health and learning.
- Coordinate with healthcare providers and community agencies to ensure continuity of care.
Health Education and Prevention
- Promote healthy habits and wellness initiatives throughout the school community.
- Provide health education to students, staff, and families on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, safety, and disease prevention.
- Support efforts to maintain a healthy and safe school environment.
Staff Support
- Provide guidance and training to school personnel on health-related procedures and emergency response protocols.
- Assist with the development and implementation of school health and safety policies.
- Participate in crisis response and emergency preparedness planning.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Preferred degree or experience with the above-mentioned duties.
