Job Title: Physician Detox & Substance Use Treatment
Position Summary
The Physician is responsible for providing medical care and oversight for clients undergoing detoxification and treatment for substance use disorders. This role includes conducting medical assessments, managing withdrawal symptoms, prescribing appropriate medications, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure safe, evidence-based treatment and successful recovery outcomes.
Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive medical assessments and evaluations upon client admission
Develop individualized detoxification and treatment plans based on medical history and substance use assessment
Prescribe and oversee withdrawal management medications and other medical treatments within established clinical guidelines
Monitor client progress and modify treatment plans as clinically indicated
Evaluate and manage withdrawal symptoms using standardized tools (e.g., CIWA, COWS)
Provide medical intervention during emergencies and crisis situations as needed
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of medical evaluations, treatment plans, and progress notes
Collaborate with Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Counselors, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care
Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and coordinate transitions between levels of care
Educate clients on withdrawal management, medication use, relapse prevention, and healthy lifestyle practices
Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards, clinical guidelines, and organizational policies
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, chart reviews, and peer review activities
Provide health education and clinical guidance to facility staff as needed
Qualifications
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree required
Active and unrestricted medical license in the applicable state required
Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Addiction Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, or a related specialty preferred
Experience treating patients with substance use disorders and detoxification management preferred
Strong knowledge of withdrawal management protocols, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and evidence-based addiction care
Excellent clinical assessment, communication, and documentation skills
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
Commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care and maintaining regulatory compliance
