Position Overview 

Maranatha Christian Academy is seeking a committed Christian health leader who serves from a biblical worldview. The health clerkworks collaboratively with school administrators, faculty, staff and students to ensure a healthy and safe school populationwithin educational institutions. The health clerk serves as the health arm of the school and plays a vital role in maintaining a learning environment that serves the whole child. 

Job Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Oversee all health office employees to ensure schedule coverage and procedural efficacy.
  • Support the superintendent in health office supervision. 
  • Ensure communicated scheduled coverage of health clerk hours to the superintendent. 
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and health department and Wellbody KC (athletic trainer at MCA). 
  • Lead in the development and implementation of health and safety procedures to address potential needs within the school. Be familiar with the MCA Crises plan and individual responsibilities. 
  • Support development of and training in a Crisis Mitigation and Management Handbook as concerns physical health protocols. 
  • Support safety drills with students and staff to ensure crises preparedness. 
  • Work closely with the superintendent to ensure efficient operation of the health room, providing input and recommendations as needed. 
  • Maintain First Aid/CPR instructor certification, monitoring the school CPR/First aid certification procedures. Track and ensure needed personnel certifications are up to date. 
  • Conduct First Aid/CPR training for staff members as needed. 
  • Establish and maintain organized filing and storage system for student health records. 
  • Develop and maintain accurate health records for students’ health and immunization information and report necessary data to state and local health agencies as required by law. 
  • Support the educational process as directed with presentations on topics such as school healthy habits, drug and alcohol abuse, and as otherwise directed. 
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student records, recognizing that the release of student records is governed by Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) ("FERPA"). 
  • Maintain inventory and supply list of school health office and crises shelters. 
  • Provide parents with documentation for student health-related issues that may occur during the day. 
  • Develop and monitor specialized student health plans, training faculty as needed in professional development to support those plans. 
  • Generate and provide administrative reports twice yearly on a) school accidents, b) health office visits. Reports should be geared toward recommendations for improved school health. 
  • Demonstrate an eye for detail and an ability to communicate professionally. 
  • Assist with other duties as assigned. 

Educational Qualifications & Requirements 

  • Completion of health training with advanced training specific to a school setting, e.g. first aid, CPR and AED Certifications. 
  • Must be able to show patience, even temper, and interact with children and teenagers. 
  • Ability to handle high-stress situations while maintaining composure.  
  • Must be able to build trust and positive relationships. 

Licensures & Certifications 

  • Preferred candidates would hold a bachelor’s degree in a health-related field. 
  • Preferred candidates would hold an active nursing licensure for Kansas. 
  • Preferred candidates would have pediatric experience. 

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to run and respond swiftly during emergencies. 
  • Move quickly in various situations. 
  • Agility and flexibility for navigating school premises.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, crawl, bend or kneel.
