ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
Our advanced nuclear client is hiring a Health Physics Technician to support day-to-day radiation safety operations in a fast-paced isotope and advanced nuclear technology environment. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on radiological control or radiation protection experience who enjoys field and laboratory support work and wants to be part of a growing team focused on safe operations and regulatory compliance. This position will support radiological surveys, contamination control, instrumentation, radioactive material handling, and operational support for radiation workers and laboratory activities.
What you'll be doing
- Perform contamination, dose rate, and radiological surveys
- Support daily radiation safety operations in laboratory and radiological work areas
- Deploy and collect airborne monitoring equipment and filters
- Support radiation workers and help ensure work is performed safely and in compliance with procedures
- Maintain, check, and calibrate radiological instruments and monitoring equipment
- Perform inspections of radiological areas, postings, and labeling
- Assist with radioactive material shipments and receipt inspections for Class 7 materials
- Support dosimetry activities and personnel monitoring
- Assist with decontamination activities as needed
- Help maintain radiation safety supplies and equipment inventory
- Provide radiation safety and instrumentation training to personnel
- Follow and help update standard operating procedures and radiation safety documentation
- Support ALARA practices and radiological controls for new and existing work areas
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent with 4+ years of Health Physics Technician, Radiation Protection Technician, or Radiological Control Technician experience
- OR Associate degree in Radiation Protection, Radiological/Health Science, or related technical field OR Navy ELT background with radiological survey experience
- Experience performing radiological surveys and supporting work in radiation and contamination areas
- Experience using radiation detection instrumentation: swipe counters, ion chamber, GM meters, gamma counters, and gamma spectroscopy systems.
- Understanding of radiological controls, contamination control, dosimetry, and ALARA principles
- Ability to wear PPE, dosimeters, and respiratory protection as required
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
- Ability to work overtime or modified schedules when needed
Preferred
- Experience planning or overseeing radiological work activities
- Military nuclear experience
- Experience supporting laboratory or isotope operations
This is a hands-on role supporting important radiological work in a collaborative technical environment. Candidates with commercial nuclear, DOE, Navy nuclear, national lab, isotope, or radiological operations experience are encouraged to apply.
