    Job Description

    What You'll Do: ODH is seeking to fill two Health Physics Supervisor positions within the Bureau of Environmental Health and Radiation Protection (BEHRP). This position will:

    • Directly supervise health physicists in the radioactive materials program within BEHRP (e.g., monitors & delegates daily work activities, identifies staff development needs & provides training or coaching, onboards & trains new employees, participates in recruitment process which includes conducting interviews & evaluating candidates, reviews & approves leave requests in accordance with established policies, completes employee performance evaluations within required time frames, facilitates regular staff meetings to communicate goals, updates, & expectations, recommends or initiates corrective &/or disciplinary action when appropriate)
    • Assist program administrator & bureau chief in planning, program development & implementation of the agreement state program within the bureau (e.g., develops rules, licensing & inspection criteria, processes & procedures for implementation of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)] agreement, develops performance criteria for compliance & assures that all processes & procedures meet NRC agreement & state criteria)
    • Assist program administrator in the preparation of budgets & reports
    • Direct specific activities relating to inspection of handlers of both state-controlled & agreement state radioactive materials, special investigations of unusual licensing requests, technical evaluations & inspections relating to agreement state materials, reports of hazardous situations & complaints, environmental monitoring & research projects involving radioactive materials
    • Oversee complex & non-repetitive evaluations of production, use, release, disposal &/or presence of radioactive material in the environment, or exposures to ionizing radiation
    • Participate with federal, state & local agencies in responding to a radiation emergency or exercise, including nuclear power plants during actual emergencies or drill scenarios
    • Ensure development, implementation & continuous improvement of BEHRP program areas

    The primary worksite (headquarter county) for this position will be Franklin County. Emergency response activities may require evening & weekend work & may require carrying a cell phone for 24-hour on-call availability.

    5 years of full-time experience working with one of following: radioactive materials, analysis of radioactive materials in environment, decommissioning of sites contaminated with radioactive materials, radiation-generating equipment, experience that deals with regulatory requirements that involves radiation surveys for dose assessment, radiation inspections, analysis of situations involving radioactive materials or radiologic health & safety AND 12 mos. exp. in either supervisory principles/techniques AND must be able to provide own transportation.

    • Or NRRPT, CHP, NMTCB or ARRT certification AND 24 mos. of full-time experience working with one of the following: radioactive materials, analysis of radioactive materials in environment, decommissioning of sites contaminated with radioactive materials, radiation-generating equipment, experience that deals with regulatory requirements that involves radiation surveys for dose assessment, radiation inspections, analysis of situations involving radioactive materials or radiologic health & safety AND 12 mos. exp. in either supervisory principles/techniques AND must be able to provide own transportation.
    • Or completion of Navy nuclear school AND 24 mos. of full-time experience working with one of the following: radioactive materials, analysis of radioactive materials in environment, decommissioning of sites contaminated with radioactive materials, radiation-generating equipment, experience that deals with regulatory requirements that involves radiation surveys for dose assessment, radiation inspections, analysis of situations involving radioactive materials or radiologic health & safety AND 12 mos. exp. in either supervisory principles/techniques AND must be able to provide own transportation.
    • Or 36 mos. exp. as Senior Health Physicist, 84643, AND 12 mos. exp. in either supervisory principles/techniques AND must be able to provide own transportation.
    • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
