The Spring Lab in the Department of Behavioral Science and Social Medicine is seeking a highly motivated, experienced Health Promotionist/Behavioral Health Coach to provide behavioral counseling and health coaching to participants in an NIH-funded randomized clinical trial through the SMARTer Weight Loss Management Study at Florida State University College of Medicine

Join a dynamic interdisciplinary team conducting research on behavioral risk factors for chronic diseases (such as poor-quality diet, physical inactivity, obesity, and tobacco use). The lab develops, optimizes, and evaluates cutting-edge, technology-supported interventions to improve self-regulation, engage social support, and facilitate healthful behavior change.

Responsibilities

Provide individualized behavioral counseling and health coaching to study participants using evidence-based behavioral weight management strategies. Utilize Motivational Interviewing (MI) and other evidence-based counseling techniques to support behavior change and healthy lifestyle goals. Establish collaborative relationships with participants and tailor coaching strategies to individual needs, barriers, and readiness for change.

• Deliver intervention sessions in accordance with the study protocol and intervention manual.
• Document participant contacts, intervention delivery, and relevant participant information accurately and promptly.
• Participate in training, supervision, team meetings, and ongoing treatment fidelity assessments.
• Collaborate with research staff and investigators to support participant recruitment, engagement, retention, and study operations.
• Contribute to research reports, presentations, abstracts, manuscripts, and other dissemination activities.
• Contribute to qualitative data collection and analysis, including coding, thematic analysis, and identification of patterns across participant experiences.
• Assist with development and maintenance of qualitative codebooks and coding procedures.

Qualifications

Degree in counseling, psychology, social work, public health, health promotion, behavioral science, clinical research, or a closely related field.

The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently, strong attention to detail, and a proven track record of excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters degree.
• Experience providing behavioral counseling, health coaching, Motivational Interviewing, or a related behavioral intervention.
• Experience working with individuals on behavior change, lifestyle modification, weight management, chronic disease prevention/management, or related health behaviors.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.
• Experience working with human subjects research, ideally clinical trials.
• Experience delivering behavioral weight management or lifestyle interventions.
• Experience with REDCap.
• Experience with treatment fidelity assessment or behavioral intervention research.
• Experience preparing research abstracts, manuscripts, or presentations.
• Experience with qualitative research and data analysis, including coding and thematic analysis.
