    Job Title: HSE Specialist

    *THIS IS A SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION*

    Job Overview: This position will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation and continuous improvement of Health & Safety programs and maintaining all State and Federal environmental programs and report requirements. The Health, Safety & Environmental Engineer position provides technical and professional support services to operations and reports directly to the local Plant Manager and functionally to the Director of Health, Safety & Environmental. This is an on the floor, high visibility position.

    Responsibilities:

    • Implement and reinforce IKO safety policies, regulatory requirements, and safe work practices while providing daily EHS guidance.

    • Coach and train salaried and hourly employees on safe behaviors and lead initiatives focused on achieving zero incidents.

    • Audit and advise plant leadership to ensure EHS policies, procedures, and hazard control programs are effectively implemented.

    • Identify, evaluate, and address hazardous conditions through risk assessments, hierarchy of controls, JHA/JSA, FLRA, and engineered safety solutions.

    • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, corrective actions, and follow-up audits to prevent recurrence.

    • Manage plant environmental, regulatory, and compliance records, reports, logs, inspections, and agency requirements.

    • Coordinate regulatory agency inspections and audits, communicate findings to the Plant Manager, and ensure deficiencies are corrected.

    • Develop and maintain SOPs, training programs, safety calendars, and employee training records; conduct new-hire and ongoing EHS training.

    • Support safety programs including hearing conservation, ergonomics, safety committees, monthly inspections, workers’ compensation, and equipment safety reviews.

    • Monitor EHS metrics and legislative changes, communicate compliance issues to leadership, and recommend improvements to strengthen overall plant safety performance.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

    • 3–5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment; 5+ years preferred.

    • Professional EHS certification is preferred.

    • Strong knowledge of U.S. occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations, including DOT, Hazardous Waste Manifest, and RCRA requirements.

    • Comprehensive understanding of hazard and risk assessment, behavior-based safety, machine/equipment safety, and general industry standards.

    • Proven EHS leadership skills with the ability to lead by example, influence others, and make sound decisions under pressure.

    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization.

    • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

    • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify risks, resolve issues, and drive continuous improvement.

    • Results-oriented team player with a strong work ethic, sense of urgency, and ability to effectively lead in a fast-changing manufacturing environment.
