Position Summary
Carylon Corporation is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Compliance Director to lead and continuously improve the company's enterprise-wide health and safety program. The Director will establish safety strategies, policies, standards, training, reporting, and performance expectations while leading and developing Carylon's EHST & Compliance Managers.
This role will partner closely with Operations to integrate safety into business decisions, ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risk, and drive consistent safety practices across all operating companies.
* This position will be based out of our Boston office and requires 50% domestic travel.

Safety Leadership
- Build, own, and continuously improve Carylon's enterprise-wide health and safety program, including policies, procedures, standards, training, and performance expectations.
- Establish clear safety goals, accountability, and consistent processes across operating companies.
- Lead, develop, and hold EHST & Compliance Managers accountable for execution of Carylon's safety strategy.
- Provide EHST & Compliance Managers with the tools, resources, coaching, and standards necessary for effective field execution.
- Analyze enterprise-wide data and performance trends to identify systemic risks and develop strategies to address them.
Compliance, Risk Management & Incident Management
- Ensure compliance with OSHA (29 CFR), DOT, and applicable state and local regulations across Carylon's operating locations.
- Oversee enterprise risk assessments, safety audits, inspections, and corrective-action processes.
- Establish standards for incident reporting and investigations; directly lead or support serious and high-potential incidents.
- Manage Carylon's response to significant OSHA inspections, regulatory audits, and client safety requirements.
Safety Programs, Policies & Training
- Write, maintain, and regularly update safety policies, procedures, and job-specific work instructions.
- Establish enterprise-wide safety training requirements and oversee implementation and completion.
- Ensure safety programs and training are practical, consistent, and aligned with regulatory and operational requirements.
- Identify and implement continuous improvements based on incidents, audits, regulatory changes, and field experience.
Safety Performance & Reporting
- Own Carylon's enterprise safety reporting and analytics.
- Monitor TRIR, DART, EMR, near misses, workers' compensation trends, vehicle incidents, and other leading and lagging indicators.
- Provide executive leadership with regular reporting, analysis, and recommendations regarding safety performance, trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Translate safety data into clear priorities, actions, and accountability for leadership.
Field Engagement & Continuous Improvement
- Periodically visit operating companies and jobsites to assess safety performance, observe field work, and coach EHST & Compliance Managers and operating leaders.
- Identify enterprise-wide risks, best practices, and opportunities to improve safety performance.
- Support EHST & Compliance Managers in driving consistent safety processes across operating companies.
- Focus corporate safety resources on significant risks, performance gaps, strategic initiatives, and escalated issues.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field of study; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- 15+ years of progressive Health & Safety compliance experience; time spent in the field is a strong plus.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA requirements and applicable environmental, transportation, and workplace safety regulations.
- Background in construction, heavy civil, industrial services or another field-intensive industry.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing safety programs across multiple locations or business units.
- Demonstrated experience conducting incident investigations and root-cause analyses.
- Experience developing safety metrics, dashboards, audits, and corrective-action programs.
- Strong communications, presentation, coaching and leadership skills.
- Proven ability to influence operational leaders and employees without relying solely on authority.
- Ability to travel regularly to operating locations and field jobsites (domestically up to 50% of the time).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in environmental services, industrial cleaning, sewer and pipeline services, water/wastewater services, or related field operations.
- Knowledge of Cal/OSHA regulations.
