  1. Job Summary

The Health and Safety Supervisor is responsible for overseeing workplace injury and illness incidents, ensuring proper care, reporting, and follow-up actions. This role supports the implementation and administration of health and safety programs, conducts workplace assessments, tracks key safety metrics, and develops training initiatives to improve overall health and safety performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Health and Safety Program Administration

    • Implement and support Health & Safety programs based on key performance indicators and organizational safety initiatives.
  • Workplace Safety Assessments and Compliance

    • Participate in or conduct job safety analyses and ergonomic assessments to ensure safe work procedures are followed.
    • Conduct management workplace inspections and communicate findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
    • Participate in Continuous Improvement and Engineering Design initiatives to incorporate health and safety considerations into business processes.
    • Conduct workplace safety assessments and audits to ensure compliance with health and safety programs.
  • Incident Management and Investigation

    • Assist with the investigation of workplace incidents and provide effective response measures through communication and training.
    • Liaise with Human Resources and workers' compensation claim adjusters regarding claims and incident management.
    • Review incident reports and supporting documentation to determine root causes.
    • Recommend corrective actions and safety alerts based on investigation findings.
  • Training and Employee Awareness

    • Develop and support health and safety training initiatives.
    • Promote employee education and safety awareness programs.
    • Schedule and support regular plant audits and safety analyses.
    • Review training gaps and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Reporting, Monitoring, and Continuous Improvement

    • Track and maintain required weekly, monthly, and annual health and safety statistics and company metrics.
    • Facilitate scheduled health and safety meetings.
    • Provide feedback to management regarding workplace inspections and opportunities for improvement.
    • Maintain workers' compensation files and documentation.
    • Monitor and report on organizational health and safety performance indicators.
  • Additional Responsibilities

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

Minimum Required:

  • Associate's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety Management or a related field.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety Management or a related field.

Experience

Minimum Required:

  • Five or more years of Occupational Health & Safety Management experience.

Preferred:

  • Seven to ten years of Occupational Health & Safety Management experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of health and safety administration within a manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of injury management, accident investigation, workplace inspections, hazardous communication, and job safety analysis.
  • Experience reviewing and/or developing written health and safety programs.
  • Experience reviewing and/or developing safety-related training programs.

Job Specific Skills

Minimum Required:

  • Knowledge of federal and state/provincial regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Familiarity with TS16949 or IATF 16949, ISO 14001, and ISO 18001 management systems.

Preferred:

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Experience with automotive manufacturing health and safety compliance.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or French is considered an asset.

Working Conditions

The following working conditions are present or expected on a daily basis:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to travel on short notice as required.
  • Ability to conduct presentations and training sessions.
  • Office environment with frequent exposure to weather elements, chemicals, robotics, industrial manufacturing operations, and automotive vehicles.
  • Personal protective equipment must be worn at all times while on the production floor.
