Position Summary

Provides day-to-day support for the operation and upkeep of a Community Health and Social Services Center. Duties include light maintenance, janitorial, and custodial work; supporting the food pantry and clothing bank; and monitoring facility safety. Ensures the facility remains clean, safe, and welcoming while assisting program staff as needed. Also provides customer service and front-desk support, including answering inquiries and provide general information with visitors. Employees in this role may be assigned to work at various centers throughout the city.

Essential and Supplemental Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Perform daily maintenance, janitorial and custodial duties to include, but not limited to, sweeping, disposing of trash/recycling, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and grounds maintenance.
  • Maintain the functions of the Health and Social Services Food Pantry and clothing bank to include stocking, pick-up/drop off, load/unload food and other donations or supplies, making food boxes, and tracking/documenting goods and services.
  • Ensure the facility is properly opened and closed each day; observe interior and exterior safety conditions and communicate any concerns to program staff.
  • Offer support during scheduled annual community events, as directed, including event setup and breakdown, distributing materials, or providing general program information.
  • Monitor and stock supplies; recommend ordering.
  • Perform minor repair tasks as assigned.
  • Ensure center vehicles are kept clean, orderly, and in good condition for daily use.
  • Attend to walk-in customers; assist with answering telephones, relaying messages, and provide general information regarding social and health programs.
  • Comply and follow the centers program guidelines.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide basic support in referring individuals to appropriate collaborative agencies under guidance.
  • Assist with routine data entry, maintaining and monitoring current client information using a database and client program file containing personal sensitive information, as directed.
  • Provide general support to staff assisting families in crisis with food, housing, and utilities stability needs, may offer referrals or information on available resources.
  • Support staff in gathering basic information for qualification and eligibility for those seeking assistance; may assist in reviewing initial criteria for program participation
  • Provide logistical support in coordinating with external agencies, churches, schools and other organizations.
  • May observe or accompany staff in professional group meetings.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

High school diploma or GED; and

Two (2) years custodial, janitorial, maintenance, clerical or office assistant experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New Mexico Drivers License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a City Operators Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.

Working Conditions

Environmental:

Indoor and outdoor environment; exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents, and dust. Office and field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to computer screens; potentially hostile environment.

Physical:

Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending and stooping, standing and walking for prolonged periods; moderate lifting and carrying up to fifty (50) pounds.
