Position Overview

Sidwell Friends, a co-educational Quaker day school with campuses in Washington, DC, and Bethesda, MD, seeks a Registered Nurse to serve as a Healthcare Coordinator and member of a five-member Health Services Team, which includes three registered nurses who support lower, middle, and upper school students across the two campuses and two Certified Athletic Trainers who support middle and upper school students. In September 2028, all three divisions will be located on the DC campus.

The Health Services Team provides nursing care and healthcare coordination for students in grades PK through 12 and reports directly to the Associate Head of School and depending on the division to which the Nurse is assigned, supports one of the division heads and athletic director.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Promoting health for the school community
  • Administering first aid and emergency care, administering medications, and developing individual health plans for students with chronic and/or acute conditions
  • Maintaining student health records
  • Supporting chaperones on school trips with pertinent medical information and guidance for students off campus
  • Participating on the multidisciplinary student support team
  • Ensuring the School is in compliance with DC and/or Maryland Health requirements such as submitting immunization records, communicable disease surveillance, and mandated reporting
  • If assigned to the Lower School on the Bethesda campus, responsible for ensuring the School is in compliance with Maryland State Department of Education Office of Child Care health requirements for licensure
  • Serving as a nurse for the summer day camp program
  • Participating in other operational responsibilities of the Health Services Office and the School (duties vary depending on division assignment)

  • Warm and compassionate healthcare provider who enjoys working with children, adolescents, and teens in a fast-paced school environment
  • Highly collaborative, task-oriented, detail-oriented, efficient, and organized
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program and a current license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in Washington, D.C. and Maryland
  • Current certification in BLS CPR/AED for Healthcare Providers
  • One to three years of recent nursing experience in community health, pediatrics, emergency care and triage (experience in a school setting preferred)

Salary: $95,000-$115,000 per year. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications

Regular work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.
