To interpret for patients and their families during their medical care visits or stay at the hospital. The Healthcare Interpreter is responsible for handling interpreting needs on demand, rarely by appointment, and renders meaning of conversations in the consecutive mode of interpretation between speakers of preferred language (e.g., Spanish) and English.

Follows instructions of providers and clarifies any confusion to assure an effective encounter
Remains calm during assignments in the event that one of the primary speakers is medically challenged, incoherent, distraught, or experiencing an emergency or end of life situation.
Must be available and punctual for encounters, as assigned during entire work shift
Must report completion of assignment to the office of Language Support Services.
Accountable for entering data and creating reports
Participates at departmental staff meetings, in-service workshops, enterprise, and community related events, as required
Provides awareness of and sensitivity to the needs of the LEPs and deaf and hard of hearing as needed.
Assists department with planning. deployment. and troubleshooting of VRI needs.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
