Job Description
The Student Healthcare Assistant plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of the Student Health Center by assisting nursing and administrative staff in delivering high-quality, efficient, and compassionate care to students. This position provides hands-on experience in a clinical setting.
Essential Functions
Print patient information sheets and visit labels for clinical staff.
Escort patients from the lobby to exam rooms and assist with patient flow throughout the clinic.
Clean and prepare exam rooms between patients, ensuring a sanitary, organized environment.
Check expiration dates on medical supplies and remove or report expired items.
Restock exam rooms and supply areas with necessary medical supplies.
Collect completed paperwork and clipboards from clinical pods and return them to the appropriate staff or designated areas.
Deliver laboratory specimens to the Point of Care (POC) testing area.
Perform laboratory functions and testing at the Student Health Center as assigned, in accordance with established laboratory protocols.
Ensure all documentation requirements related to laboratory functions are completed accurately and consistently.
Transport patients via wheelchair to hospital ancillary departments or the Emergency Room, as directed by staff and based on patient acuity.
Report incidents, concerns, or unusual situations to the supervisor through verbal communication and email.
Assist clerical staff as needed, including:
Cleaning and organizing the lobby area
Preparing medical records for pick-up
Loading and organizing clipboards for patient use
Assist the Nurse Supervisor with assigned tasks.
Attend and participate in training sessions and meetings as required.
As with all positions, additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed to support the mission and values of the Student Health Center and the Division of Student Affairs.
Anticipated Hiring Range
$16.40 per hour, paid on a bi-weekly basis.
Shift
Number of hours per week: 8-12 hours per week. Schedule may vary from week to week.
Shifts: as scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and/or 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (typically no weekends during the academic year).
There are no scheduled shifts over Fall Break, Winter Break, Spring Break, or the Summer semester.
This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible for a student title, an individual must be enrolled at the University of Missouri. Enrollment in the summer session is not required if the student was enrolled in the Spring semester and is pre-enrolled for the Fall semester. Selection is contingent upon results of a review with the Office of Institutional Equity, Office of Student Accountability & Support, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, previous MU appointment history, and reference checks.
