General Summary
This position works part time within schools within the county during the time when schools are in session.
Interviewing and selection will take place with the goal to have the Technicians start employment in training in August 2026.
Overview:
Do you enjoy working with children and helping support their health and development through early screening and prevention?
Oakland County is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Hearing and Vision Program Technician to provide hearing and vision screenings for preschool and school-age children throughout the community. In this role, you'll work directly with students, schools, families, and healthcare partners to help identify potential hearing and vision concerns and ensure children receive the support and follow-up care they need.

What you''ll do:
Conduct hearing and vision screenings for preschool and school-age children using specialized equipment and MDHHS protocols
Interpret screening results and coordinate follow-up testing or referrals when needed
Prepare reports and maintain accurate screening records and documentation
Coordinate with schools and clinic sites to schedule screenings and organize testing logistics
Transport screening equipment and materials to schools and clinic locations throughout Oakland County
Communicate professionally with parents, teachers, school staff, and healthcare providers regarding results and referrals
Provide information about available community resources and services
Participate in ongoing education and training related to hearing and vision screening practices

Minimum Qualifications
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
2a. Be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test with
OR
2b. Have successfully completed sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university with
OR
2c. Have had at least six (6) months of paid or volunteer experience working directly with pre-school or elementary school age children in one or more of the following settings: school, church, daycare/school age care, extracurricular clubs, or sports.
