Senior Estimator – Heavy Civil / Water & Wastewater Infrastructure

About the Opportunity

A leading heavy civil construction company is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to support complex infrastructure projects throughout California. This role focuses on water and wastewater facilities, including treatment plants, pipelines, pump stations, storage tanks, and stormwater systems.

The ideal candidate will have extensive estimating experience in heavy civil construction and a strong background in water and wastewater treatment projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Review plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope and requirements.
  • Develop detailed estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and production rates.
  • Solicit and evaluate bids from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Analyze project risks, constructability concerns, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Prepare competitive bid proposals, schedules, and pricing strategies.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel during preconstruction and bidding phases.
  • Track historical cost data and market trends to improve estimate accuracy.
  • Ensure estimates comply with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain organized records of bids, estimates, and supporting documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and extensive field experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 10 years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction.
  • Proven experience estimating:
    • Water Treatment Plants (WTP)
    • Wastewater/Sewage Treatment Plants (STP/WWTP)
    • Water transmission pipelines
    • Sewer systems
    • Storm drain infrastructure
    • Pump stations
    • Water storage tanks
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and estimating practices.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Proficiency with estimating software, including HCSS.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between project sites as needed.
  • Ability to perform site visits and field investigations.
  • Comfortable working on a computer for extended periods and conducting occasional site assessments.
