About this Role:

HBK Engineering is seeking a Heavy Civil Field Lead, who performs all duties of a Field Lead with greater responsibility, independence, and technical judgment. This role often includes interpreting survey plans, resolving field issues, coordinating with project managers or engineers, mentoring junior staff, and making on‑site decisions that affect survey accuracy and efficiency. Senior Field Leads frequently handle complex boundaries, control, or construction surveys and may serve as the primary field liaison for clients or agencies. Work Location Arizona

What You'll Do:
  • Linear field boundary
  • Electrical Transmission Staking
  • Pipeline surveying
  • Basic SUE field work including Pipe & Cable Locating & GPR collection.
  • Basic terrestrial scanning projects
  • Proficient with GPS RTK staking and data collection as well as static observations
  • Familiar with use of total stations and robotic total stations.
  • Capable to operate an optical and digital level.
  • UAS Base Level - Part 107 FAA drone pilot
  • Heavy Civil Survey Construction Layout and Data Collection, including data centers, substations and BESS facilities.
  • Complex Boundary survey providing technical directions to other crews.
  • Complex Scanning projects interior & exterior
  • Complex layout & positional verification of construction features
  • Can complete precise horizontal and vertical control networks.
  • Advanced SUE field work including Pipe & Cable Locating & GPR collection in urban environment’s as well as GPR data extraction.
  • Expert with use of total stations and robotic total stations.
  • UAS Advance - Part 107 FAA drone pilot (HBK UAS Flight Operations Manual Level 1)
  • Interacts with clients and contractors on site daily
  • Directs other HBK field crews in daily operations
  • General construction layout accuracy expected:
    • 0.02 feet horizontal
    • 0.01 feet vertical
What You'll Bring:

Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of OSP survey experience in with combination of aerial and underground OSP survey is required.
  • Ability to travel up to 90% of the time and work nights/weekends when required.
  • Datacenter construction experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Attention to jobsite safety.
  • Working knowledge of OSP construction techniques and placement methods.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • PLS license is a plus.
  • PC knowledge and/or use and Microsoft Office Suite (Word / Excel) are preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Construction experience is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree is a plus.
  • I.T./S.I. T Certification is a plus.
  • Surveying experience is a plus.
  • Aerial and/or underground OSP construction experience.
