Position Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Heavy Equipment Lube Technician to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine lubrication and maintenance services on a variety of heavy equipment, including but not limited to bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and paving equipment. The Lube Technician will play a critical role in ensuring the longevity and optimal performance of our equipment by applying proper lubrication techniques, inspecting components for wear, and identifying potential issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled lubrication services on heavy equipment as per manufacturer and company guidelines.
  • Inspect equipment for potential mechanical issues, including leaks, wear, and damage to components.
  • Maintain accurate records of lubrication services, including type and amount of lubricant used and any observations of equipment condition.
  • Operate lube trucks, grease guns, and other lubrication tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Replace filters, oils, and fluids as needed and ensure proper disposal of used materials in compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to prioritize equipment that requires immediate attention and ensure that all machinery is operating at peak efficiency.
  • Assist with basic repairs and preventative maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with operators and other maintenance personnel regarding equipment status and any identified issues.
  • Stay current with industry best practices, lubrication techniques, and equipment technology.
Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in heavy equipment maintenance is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a lube technician or in a similar role within the heavy equipment industry.
  • Knowledge of lubrication techniques, fluid types, and equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Familiarity with various types of heavy equipment and their specific lubrication requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals and schematics.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Basic mechanical skills and the ability to perform minor repairs.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record; CDL may be required depending on the job location.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
  • Must be a member of Operators Local 101 or Teamsters 541
Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and perform tasks that require bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in outdoor and industrial environments, which may include exposure to dust, noise, and heavy machinery.
Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position with hours that may vary depending on project needs. Some overtime, weekends, and on-call work may be required.

Union Membership

As a signatory of the Heavy Constructors of Greater Kansas City , SB hires the following classifications of drivers and mechanics from the Teamsters Local 541 in the Kansas City Metro Area:
  • Apprentice Teamster
  • Journeyperson Teamster

Union Wage Rates

Wage rates are set during the collective bargaining process between the Heavy Constructors Association contractors and unions. 2022 wage rates for laborers are as follows effective 1 April 2022:

In the Heavy Constructors Association union system, overtime rates are as follows:
  • Any hour after 10 hours in a single workday
  • Any hour after 40 hours in a single work week (work weeks are Sunday thru Saturday)
Note that basic wage rates and overtime rates can fluctuate from job to job depending on (1) the wage rate effective at the contract bid date and (2) whether a prevailing wage determination is controlling for a particular public works contract.

Apprenticeship Program

Drug, Alcohol, Violence, & Discrimination-Free Workplace

OSHA 10-Hour for Construction

Missouri state statute requires public works construction workers to obtain an OSHA 10-Hour for Construction certification. Members of all four unions affiliated with the Heavy Constructors Association of Greater Kansas City may obtain this training at no cost through the Construction Industry Laborers Training Fund. SB union member employees who do not yet have this certification are required to complete this training within 60 calendar days from the first day of employment.
