Job Description

Heavy Equipment Maintenance Manager

Company Overview

M&M Recycling is a family-owned scrap metal recycling company where what happens behind the scenes makes everything in front of it possible. We keep high-stakes, heavy equipment running safely and efficiently so our operations teams can perform at their best.

We operate a range of equipment, from shredder systems and cranes to trucks and choppers. With a hands-on culture and minimal red tape, your ideas matter, your decisions count, and you can see the impact of your work every day.

The Opportunity

As the Heavy Equipment Maintenance Manager based in Locust Grove, GA, you will own the maintenance strategy and day-to-day execution for a growing recycling operation. Your mission is to move the organization from mostly reactive repairs to a structured, preventive maintenance approach that cuts downtime, improves safety, and controls costs.

This is a chance to build and run maintenance systems from the ground up while staying close to the equipment and people in the yard. You will partner directly with operations and finance leadership, lead by example on site, and have real authority to shape how maintenance is planned, staffed, and measured. If you like getting your boots dirty, bringing order to complex operations, and seeing the results of your work in real time, this role offers meaningful responsibility and long-term growth.

What You'll Do

  • Design, implement, and lead a preventive maintenance program for heavy equipment and trucks at the Locust Grove facility and nearby locations.
  • Build and manage a practical parts inventory and usage tracking system that ensures availability, reduces waste, and supports multiple sites.
  • Partner with finance to plan and manage maintenance budgets, analyze spend, and provide clear, data-driven cost reporting and recommendations.
  • Lead internal maintenance personnel and coordinate external vendors, setting clear priorities and holding teams accountable for quality, safety, and timeliness.
  • Reinforce safety compliance across all maintenance activities, ensuring equipment, procedures, and documentation meet company and regulatory standards.

What Success Looks Like

  • Within the first 6–12 months, a structured preventive maintenance program is running reliably, with a clear schedule, documented procedures, and a visible reduction in unplanned downtime.
  • A functional parts inventory and tracking system is in place, providing accurate stock levels, usage history, and cost visibility across locations.
  • Maintenance spending is better controlled and forecasted, with regular reporting that helps leadership make informed operational and capital decisions.
  • Maintenance teams and vendors are aligned on expectations, safety standards are consistently met, and equipment performance and reliability have measurably improved.

What We're Looking For

  • 7–10 years of heavy equipment maintenance experience, including prior hands-on mechanical work on complex machinery.
  • Background in scrap metal, recycling, construction, or industrial environments where heavy equipment uptime and safety are mission-critical.
  • Proven leadership skills managing maintenance teams and vendors, with a track record of bringing structure, accountability, and clear processes to daily operations.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulics, electrical, and mechanical systems, along with experience using basic inventory and cost-control tools or systems.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary range: $70-85,000 per year, based on experience and leadership.
  • Opportunity for real authority to design, improve, and own maintenance systems and processes across sites.
  • Full-time role, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., and Saturday, 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
  • Based at our Locust Grove, GA facility, with travel to nearby company sites as needed.
