Position Summary

The Heavy Equipment Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, compliance, and lifecycle management of the Company's heavy equipment. This role ensures equipment is safe, reliable, and available to support construction operations while leading departmental personnel, managing budgets, and maintaining compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with extensive knowledge of heavy equipment operations, preventative maintenance, and fleet management best practices.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop department personnel through ongoing feedback, performance evaluations, corrective action, and employee development.
  • Review employee timekeeping records for accuracy and approval.
  • Review and approve departmental invoices and expenditures.
  • Ensure the safe operation of all heavy equipment across Company job sites.
  • Verify that all equipment is operated according to manufacturer guidelines and Company safety policies.
  • Maintain records for equipment utilization, operating costs, licenses, inspections, warranties, and service agreements.
  • Provide recommendations to the Executive Team regarding fleet performance, equipment needs, and capital equipment budgets.
  • Coordinate the allocation, transportation, setup, and removal of heavy equipment to support project schedules.
  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance schedules and coordinate repairs to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
  • Utilize manufacturer warranties and service agreements whenever applicable.
  • Partner with the Purchasing Agent to develop equipment replacement strategies and assist with equipment purchases, rentals, and lease agreements.
  • Utilize fleet management and maintenance software to create and manage work orders, verify completed repairs, prioritize mechanic workflow, and schedule preventative maintenance according to OEM recommendations.
  • Monitor GPS tracking systems and reconcile fuel usage to improve fleet efficiency and accountability.
  • Promote and maintain a culture of safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience supervising heavy equipment operations or fleet management.
  • Valid Florida Class E driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Strong knowledge of heavy equipment lifecycle management, equipment applications, preventative maintenance, and fleet operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong technical aptitude with experience using fleet management and maintenance software.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Business Administration, Construction Management, or a related field.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and balance throughout the workday.
  • Frequent visits to active construction job sites requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Work environments range from office settings to warehouses, maintenance shops, and active construction sites with moderate to high noise levels.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and other hours as business needs require.
