Felix Construction has been building critical water and wastewater infrastructure since 1987, proudly serving the Phoenix and Dallas markets. We’ve kept the close, family-owned feel of our early days while earning the reputation and recognition of a leading general contractor - recently named #1 Top Workplace in Arizona for midsize business in construction.
Build cool things. Learn every day. Be home for dinner.
At Felix Construction, work is local—no overnight travel—so you're home every night. We keep crews safe, busy, and respected. We like people who work hard and like using their hands and their heads. Read the plan, know the ‘why,’ build it right, and take pride in the result. You’ll get steady hours, good gear, and a team that has your back.
We Build What Matters.
If you'd rather spend your day turning wrenches than sitting behind a desk, we want to talk to you.
Felix Construction is looking for a Mechanic II to join our Equipment team. This is a hands-on position for an experienced heavy equipment mechanic who enjoys the work itself—replacing major components, performing repairs, and keeping our fleet running safely and reliably.
This is not a lead mechanic or shop foreman position. We're looking for someone who takes direction well, works independently once assigned a task, and takes pride in getting the job done right.
What You'll Do
You'll perform repairs and component replacements on heavy construction equipment used throughout Arizona's water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities include:
- Replace major components including powertrain, brake, steering, suspension, and drivetrain systems
- Perform heavy mechanical repairs on backhoes, loaders, excavators, lifts, trucks, trailers, and other construction equipment
- Repair and replace starters, alternators, batteries, and other electrical components
- Assist with hydraulic system repairs and component replacement
- Assist with engine and transmission repairs and overhauls
- Test equipment after repairs to verify proper operation
- Complete equipment inspection reports and repair documentation
- Order replacement parts as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA requirements
Who You Are
We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience working as a heavy equipment or heavy-duty truck mechanic
- Is comfortable performing heavy line mechanical work and major parts replacement
- Can follow direction from senior mechanics or supervisors and complete repairs with minimal supervision
- Takes ownership of assigned work and sees it through to completion
- Enjoys being a hands-on mechanic rather than managing others
- Works safely and takes pride in quality workmanship
Qualifications
- Experience repairing heavy construction equipment, heavy trucks, or similar equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record
- CDL preferred, but not required
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This position requires working on construction job sites in extreme temperatures. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and may occasionally use hand tools associated with the construction industry. Specific vision abilities required include the ability to adjust and focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for long periods, climb on and off equipment, walk, kneel, bend, reach with hands and arms, hear, and talk.
