**Under the direction of the Deputy Chief, Fleet (Fire), the Heavy Equipment Mechanic (HEM) performs a wide variety of mechanical work. The incumbent constructs, repairs, and maintains automotive and heavy maintenance and construction equipment; may instruct and lead or direct the work of apprentices, help Service Assistants (Automotive), or other employees, inmates, wards, or resident workers; and do other related work. Incumbents in this position must be willing to work overtime.
Incumbent must possess or obtain a valid California Commercial Driver's License (Class B) with Tank and Air Brake endorsements within six (6) months of appointment. These endorsements are required for the movement of certified equipment and vehicles. Maintaining a valid license with all required endorsements in a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
This position supports and manages the day-to-day business operations for Cal OES which is handled in an office location. This is not considered a hybrid telework position.
DMV Pull Program
Participation in the DMV Pull Program is required. The position(s) require(s) a valid Driver's License (DL). You must answer the questions addressing your DL on your application. Ensure you provide your DL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.

Fire and Rescue Division
The California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, Fire and Rescue Division is responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of the California Fire Service and Rescue Emergency Mutual Aid Plan. Emergency Response
In the event of an emergency, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites.
