Abrams Tank Maintenance Mechanic

Location: Fort Hood, TX
Employment Type: Full-Time | Hours: 40+ hrs/week, Monday–Friday (travel may be required)
Pay $26.38 plus H & W 5.09
 


About the Role

Contract Professionals, Inc. (CPI) is seeking an experienced Abrams Tank Maintenance Mechanic to support the GDLS Fort Cavazos team. In this hands-on role, you will perform maintenance, troubleshooting, inspections, and modification work on multiple Abrams tank platforms, helping ensure mission readiness for critical defense operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for mechanically skilled professionals who thrive in fast-paced field and shop environments and are passionate about supporting military vehicle operations and modernization programs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on Abrams tank variants including M1A1 SA, M1A2 SEP V2, and M1A2 SEP V3 platforms
  • Install and execute Modification Work Orders (MWOs) on Abrams fleet vehicles
  • Read and interpret troubleshooting procedures, diagnostic flow charts, and technical manuals for systems, subsystems, and components
  • Maintain accountability of special tools, test equipment, and assigned property
  • Support maintenance, retrofit, and fielding activities both on and off military installations
  • Work independently and collaboratively with military and government personnel
  • Perform additional maintenance-related duties as assigned by leadership

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Minimum of one (1) year of general mechanical maintenance experience; Abrams tank experience strongly preferred
  • Basic knowledge of military vehicle maintenance tools and test equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical and diagnostic documentation
  • Must be able to gain access to U.S. military facilities and obtain a NACI clearance if required
  • Must be a U.S. person
  • Valid state driver’s license required; ability to obtain a tank driver’s license required
  • Ability to work effectively in team-oriented field and shop environments
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb vehicles, work at heights, and perform duties in extreme weather conditions
  • Must meet anthropometric requirements (ASR) for entry into enclosed military vehicles
  • Ability to travel as needed in support of maintenance and field operations
  • Must successfully pass the Job Proficiency Certification for Abrams fleet vehicles
  • Ability to work autonomously alongside government personnel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting Abrams Family of Vehicles maintenance programs
  • Military maintenance background or experience supporting defense programs
  • Familiarity with GDLS maintenance procedures and standards
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Previous experience working in military field environments
