The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a variety of heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Heavy equipment may include wheel loaders, excavators; screening, crushing, and material conveying systems; street sweepers; skid steers; and other similar equipment. The Heavy Equipment Operator must also clean, inspect, and secure all equipment and perform minor preventive and other maintenance on his/her equipment.

Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner according to all relevant local, state, and federal regulations and all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform and document daily safety and maintenance checks.
  • Perform minor preventive and other maintenance.
  • Clean equipment as scheduled or necessary.
  • Promptly report any incidents, injuries or safety concerns to management.
  • Adhere to and abide by Clean Earth safety and security policies and procedures (e.g.Cardinal Rules, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), etc.)
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by management.
  • Responsibilities may vary based on site level and/or location.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly without assistance and up to 75 pounds unassisted on occasion.

  • Ability to push and pull up to 500 pounds using a pallet jack, hand truck, or other device to assist.

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and indoors in non-climate-controlled environments.

  • Visual acuity to read labels and documentation and sufficient depth perception to safely operate forklifts.

  • Ability to hear vehicle warning chimes, alarms, and other audible safety signals.

  • Ability and willingness to wear company-issued personal protection equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety glasses, hard hat, steel-toed boots, gloves, Tyvek coveralls, and respirator.

  • Ability to work overtime hours as needed based on business needs.

  • Education: (BA or BS degree required or preferred)

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Experience: (Required minimum of years of relevant experience.)

  • 1+ years of experience using a wheel loader/front-end loader

  • Experience in using an excavator, skid steer loader, and other related heavy equipment preferred
