VACANT POSITION Heavy Equipment Operator I Water & Sewer Department
Job Purpose To operate and transport various heavy equipment including excavators, track loaders, tractors, and backhoes to support maintenance and repair operations within the water and sewer department. This role will be responsible for safely maneuvering and operating these machines, performing inspections, and assisting with maintenance projects as directed.
Responsibilities • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and attachments, including inspections, greasing, sharpening, and other operator-level maintenance tasks. • Right of way management, to include cutting, spraying, marking, and inspection. • Ditch cleaning and clearing as directed by the Storm Water Department. • Assists water and sewer crew with the installation of pipes, manholes, and catch basins as needed for ongoing projects. • Operates sewer rodder, trailer, maintaining sanitary sewer services as needed. • Assists with water and sewer distribution tasks during high-demand periods, ensuring the timely completion of urgent projects. • Delivers exceptional customer service, both internally within the department and externally to the public, maintaining a professional and helpful approach in all interactions.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to operate heavy equipment such as excavators, track loaders, tractors, backhoes, and dump trucks, etc. Must be skilled in the operation, uses, and hazards of basic heavy equipment. Ability to work effectively with limited supervision. Must be dependable and prompt. Ability to obtain CDL License within two years of hire. Must have the ability to work with the public.
Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
