Job Description
River Metals Recycling (a Nucor company) is hiring a full-time Heavy Equipment Operator in Jackson, TN, responsible for operating heavy scrap-handling equipment and directing yard traffic to maintain a safe, efficient recycling facility. The top requirements for this role are 2+ years of heavy equipment operating experience, strict adherence to OSHA and company safety standards, and strong customer service skills.

Job Responsibilities
Job Duties
Equipment Operation & Care: Safely operate mobile heavy machinery (mobile shear, grapple, and magnet material handlers), perform daily pre-operation equipment inspections, report defects to supervisors, and maintain cleanliness.
Yard Management & Inspection: Greet incoming customers, direct traffic to appropriate unloading zones, and inspect loads to prevent prohibited materials (e.g., propane tanks, batteries) from entering the property.
Teamwork & Safety Leadership: Maintain constant radio communication with team members to ensure safe traffic flow and foster a productive, safety-first environment.

Qualifications
Job Requirements
Experience: 2+ years operating scrap-handling or industrial heavy machinery (e.g., front-end loader, wheel loader, trackhoe, excavator, or scrap handler).
Safety & Compliance: Proven ability to initiate, lead, and uphold company and OSHA safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
Communication & Interaction: Strong radio communication skills for traffic coordination and high-level customer service skills for greeting and directing yard visitors.
