POSITION SUMMARY:

Heavy Equipment Operator must be highly skilled in the operation of large wheel loader and grapple equipped excavator. Prospective candidate must be self-motivated, perform pre and post inspection of equipment and perform daily maintenance.

ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBLIES:
  • Performs accurate and safe operation of heavy off-road equipment.
  • Follow instructions received by management, and expected to carry out the assignments, free of direct supervision, except for the more complicated jobs.
  • Ability to diagnose or trouble-shoot basic mechanical issues and have good working knowledge of all mechanical aspects of the equipment.
  • Performs all required daily equipment maintenance and servicing to include greasing, blowing out radiator and air filters, clearing excavator tracks and loader axles of debris. Major problems will immediately be referred to the supervisor at the first sign of trouble.
  • At times will be the primary client contact, answer questions or seek information needed for the client.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • May assist other personnel with duties when there is no need for heavy equipment operation. (Cleaning and general housekeeping)
  • Additional responsibilities will be assigned based on business needs.
  • In the event of inclement weather plan on arriving 1-1/2 before normal start and may have to spend the entire night, maintaining facility if it’s a working hours snow event. 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Graduation from a standard senior high school, or equivalent preferred
  • Three (3) years previous experience preferred.
  • Experience operating heavy construction equipment.
  • Experience dealing directly with clients and co-workers.
  • Tact and diplomacy required in dealing with customer personnel at the transfer station.
  • Professional communication skills
  • Ability to speak and write basic English
  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state with clean record
  • Current DOT card
  • Proper hydraulic license classification for equipment being used.
  • Thorough operational knowledge and skills of specific equipment to be operated (Wheel loader, Excavator w/grapple).
  • Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to service the assigned equipment to ensure maximum operating efficiency.
  • Maintain a positive, solutions focused attitude.

  • Ability to climb ladders and climb to get into the equipment.
  • Ability regularly sit for long periods of time.
  • Exposure to extreme New England weather in all seasons.
  • Reaching, bending and lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Required PPE clothing for safety purposes, shoes, hat and outerwear (company supplied).
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug test
