Heavy Equipment Operator- Recycling Transfer Facility - 19 hours per week.
The Town of Cohasset is seeking a qualified Heavy Equipment Operator to join its team at the Recycling Transfer Facility. This position plays a key role in supporting daily solid waste and recycling operations through the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment and general facility maintenance.
Position Overview:
The Heavy Equipment Operator performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in support of public works operations, with a primary focus on solid waste and recycling activities at the RTF. This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment, assisting with disposal and recycling processes, and performing routine maintenance and inspections on assigned equipment. The role also includes general labor duties as needed to support daily operations. This position reports directly to the RTF Supervisor and plays a key role in maintaining safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Minimum Qualifications:A High School diploma or equivalent, plus a minimum of two (2) years of advanced technical or vocational training and experience in the operation of heavy equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid DOT medical card. Recycling and transfer facility employees must have a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License. Skilled experience in operating vehicles and equipment is required.
Preferred Qualifications:A valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred for Recycling and transfer facility employees. Knowledge of departmental operations and safe and effective heavy equipment operation techniques and practices is also preferred. Recycling and transfer facility employees are preferred to hold 2B, 4E, and 4G hoisting engineer’s licenses.
Compensation & Benefits:
This is a part-time position classified as Grade PW2-1, $28.80 per hour (with CDL) and Grade PW1-1, $26.19 per hour (without a CDL) with a 3% shift differential for weekend shifts. The Town of Cohasset offers a comprehensive benefits package
A collective bargaining unit represents this position and is 19 hours per week, with a possible rotating weekend schedule.
