Job Description
Raleigh Water - Water Distribution division is looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator - Repairs role to join our team. Heavy Equipment Operators are devoted to completing preventive maintenance, utility repairs, utility locating, participating in investigations within our water system and providing excellent customer service. The Heavy Equipment Operator also performs maintenance and equipment operation for the City's distribution system by performing skilled activities in support of maintaining, replacing, and repairing water assets, such as services, mains, and fire hydrants, etc.

Work Hours:
This position primarily works on Monday - Friday from 6:30 am - 3:00 pm. Work includes rotating after-hours on-call responsibilities. When on call, youll receive standby pay for 8 hours at your regular hourly rate. If youre called out to work during your on-call shift, youll be compensated at the overtime rate as per our company policy. We understand that flexibility is key! Our on-call schedules as well as after-hours work requirements can vary based on seasonal needs and operational requirements. Therefore, the ability to work a flexible schedule is essential for this role.

Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency and 1 to 3 years experience in medium to heavy construction equipment operation or related work, such as:
OR
Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted
Licensing and Certifications:
Valid North Carolina Class C Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire

Work Environment and Physical Effort:
Very Heavy: Exerting more than 100 pounds of force occasionally, more than 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or more than 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Work Environment:
Work is typically performed in an outdoor environment, construction site, or in a vehicle. Employees may occasionally work in confined spaces, warehouse environment, or shop environment.
Work Exposures:
There is frequent exposure to extreme cold (below 32 degrees), extreme heat (above 100 degrees), moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and loud noises (85+ decibels average over 8-hour working day such as heavy trucks, jack hammers, leaf blowers, lawn mowers, construction). Employees may occasionally be exposed to individuals who are hostile or irate, communicable diseases, and toxic or caustic chemicals or substances.
