Heavy Equipment Operator

As a Heavy Equipment Operator with PeopleReady Skilled Trades, you'll support underground utility and fiber construction projects throughout the  El Centro area. In this long-term opportunity, you'll work alongside experienced crews performing excavation, trenching, backfilling, material handling, site preparation, and supporting underground utility/fiber construction activities. This position offers the potential to convert to a full-time employee following a successful 90-day evaluation period.

 

Candidates must be able to work safely around existing utilities, crews, and active construction sites. CDL drivers are strongly preferred. Must be able to work on both prevailing-wage and non-prevailing-wage projects.

Previous heavy equipment operating experience required

• Experience operating mini excavators and skid steers

• Knowledge of excavation, trenching, and backfilling operations

• CDL license strongly preferred

• Ability to work safely around existing utilities, crews, and active construction sites

• Reliable transportation to and from the job site

• Must be able to work on both prevailing wage and non-prevailing wage projects

• Strong work ethic and safety oriented

• Verifiable work history that demonstrates equipment operating experience

• Ability to perform physical work in outdoor construction environments

• PPE required

• Some assignments have additional screening requirements, such as background checks and/or drug tests

 

Responsibilities:

 

• Safely operate mini excavators and other heavy equipment

• Perform excavation, trenching, grading, and backfilling operations

• Conduct equipment inspections and report maintenance concerns

• Work alongside construction crews to complete project tasks safely and efficiently

• Follow all project safety requirements and company procedures

• Maintain awareness of underground and existing utilities while operating equipment

• Support site preparation and utility installation projects

• Maintain a clean and safe work environment on active construction sites
