The Heavy Equipment Operator supports the Plumbing/Piping Division by safely and efficiently operating heavy machinery to perform excavation, trenching, grading, and material handling for commercial and industrial piping systems. This role is responsible for precise digging around underground utilities, maintaining proper trench depth and grade, and assisting with the installation of piping infrastructure in accordance with project plans and safety standards. Responsibilities - Operate heavy equipment (excavators, backhoes, trenchers)
- Perform trenching and grading for underground utilities
- Install and repair underground plumbing systems (water, sewer, drainage)
- Read and interpret blueprints and site plans
- Follow safety procedures for trenching and confined spaces
- Perform basic equipment maintenance and inspections
REQUIREMENTS: - 2-5+ years operating heavy equipment (especially excavators/backhoes)
- Experience with underground utility installation (water/sewer lines preferred)
- Construction or civil site work background
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: - Knowledge of trenching and shoring safety
- Familiarity with underground plumbing systems
- Strong teamwork and communication
- Valid driver's license (CDL is a big plus)
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 safety certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Ability to lift 50+ lbs
- Work outdoors in heat/cold
- Stand, bend, and operate machinery for long hours
