About the role:

A Heavy Equipment Technician for a mining company is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting a variety of large machinery used in mining operations. This includes equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, haul trucks, and loaders. Given the fast-paced environment of mining sites, the role requires a deep understanding of mechanical systems, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems. What you'll do:

  1. Maintenance and Repair:
    • Perform regular maintenance and repairs on mining equipment, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently.
    • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
    • Troubleshoot and repair engines, transmissions, axles, and related mechanical systems.
  2. Inspection and Diagnostics:
    • Conduct inspections to assess the condition of machinery and identify potential problems before they cause breakdowns.
    • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to test systems and identify issues with engine performance, electrical systems, and hydraulics.
  3. Documentation:
    • Keep detailed records of maintenance and repairs, including parts used and time spent on each job.
    • Follow safety regulations and company policies while working on machinery.
  4. Collaboration:
    • Work closely with other team members, such as operators and supervisors, to ensure that equipment is serviced efficiently and that operational downtime is minimized.
    • Train or mentor junior mechanics on proper techniques and safety practices.
  5. Safety Compliance:
    • Ensure all repair work complies with the company's safety protocols and regulatory standards.
    • Adhere to safe work practices when working with heavy machinery, chemicals, and fuel.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in heavy equipment mechanics or a related field is recommended.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with heavy machinery, ideally in a mining, construction, or industrial setting is preferred.
