About the role:
A Heavy Equipment Technician for a mining company is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting a variety of large machinery used in mining operations. This includes equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, haul trucks, and loaders. Given the fast-paced environment of mining sites, the role requires a deep understanding of mechanical systems, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems. What you'll do:
- Maintenance and Repair:
- Perform regular maintenance and repairs on mining equipment, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Troubleshoot and repair engines, transmissions, axles, and related mechanical systems.
- Inspection and Diagnostics:
- Conduct inspections to assess the condition of machinery and identify potential problems before they cause breakdowns.
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to test systems and identify issues with engine performance, electrical systems, and hydraulics.
- Documentation:
- Keep detailed records of maintenance and repairs, including parts used and time spent on each job.
- Follow safety regulations and company policies while working on machinery.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with other team members, such as operators and supervisors, to ensure that equipment is serviced efficiently and that operational downtime is minimized.
- Train or mentor junior mechanics on proper techniques and safety practices.
- Safety Compliance:
- Ensure all repair work complies with the company's safety protocols and regulatory standards.
- Adhere to safe work practices when working with heavy machinery, chemicals, and fuel.
Qualifications & Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in heavy equipment mechanics or a related field is recommended.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with heavy machinery, ideally in a mining, construction, or industrial setting is preferred.
