Description of Work This is a readvertisement. All previous applicants MUST reapply to be considered.

The Standards Division is a regulatory agency responsible for enforcing the North Carolina Weights and Measures Act (G.S. 81A), the Gasoline and Oil Inspection Law (G.S. 119), and the LP-Gas Inspection Law (G.S. 119 Article 5).

Duties involve the inspection of vehicle scales used in retail trade; inspection of livestock scales used in the marketing of livestock as required by the Packers and Stockyards Administration of the USDA; inspection of monorail and beam scales; testing of warehouse and portable platform scales; inspection of hopper scales used by DOT; investigation of consumer complaints; and assurance of compliance with the public weighmaster law. Some overnight travel required.

Applicant must reside within one of the counties of the territory or no more than twenty-five miles outside of the counties listed: Anson, Cabarrus, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Richmond, Rockingham, Rowan, Scotland, Stanley, Stokes, Surry, Union, Yadkin.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Recruitment Range: $41,206 - $44,000

  • Ability to communicate both in oral and written form in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with wholesalers, retailers, and other persons engaged in the use and operation of weighting and measuring devices that are being regulated. Prefer experience learning and interpreting laws and regulations.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to do basic math.
  • Ability to lift and carry approximately 50 pounds.
  • Must possess a valid NC CDL drivers license and provide a current DOT Medical Examiners Certificate.

The selected candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment fitness for duty at the departments expense. Math Test will be administered as part of interview process
