Job Description
JOB DUTIES
- Operates roughing and finishing lathes simultaneously and other auxiliary equipment in the AFM, to perform rough and finished operations on axles and all types of miscellaneous forgings requiring complicated and detailed machining, with a high rate of productivity and with a minimum of spoilage to material.
- Helps operate lathes to obtain maximum efficiency with minimum wear on machines, transfers, conveyors and cutting tools.
- Assists in lubricating lathes and reports to Foreman any repairs, adjustments or malfunctions concerning all the equipment within the “total machining concept.” Obtains lubricant from storage within the machining area.
- Keeps floor area clean around both machines and supporting equipment.
- As necessary, obtains from Foreman proper production sketches or drawing, templates, gauges, etc., required to perform the work on the lathes. Returns all such items when the material on the order is completed.
- Helps properly adjust lathes and checks all details on forgings to ascertain that pieces are as required per production order or drawing.
- Helps operate controls on console automatically programmed to operate: Conveyor “A”, Loading Transfer #1, Roughing Lathe, Unloading Transfer #1, Conveyor “B”, Loading Transfer #2, Finishing Lathe, Unloading Transfer #2 and Conveyor “C”. The facilities named represent “total machining concept” as referred to herein.
- Handles and moves product as necessary by monorail or rolling, to make room for production and aligns product on skids.
- Assists in checking forgings on Conveyor “B” that have been partially turned on the previous shift and completes finish-turning operation.
- When necessary, obtains necessary cutting tools from Foreman, returning worn or broken tools in exchange for new ones.
- Obtains necessary cutting tips and inserts from tooling dispensing cabinet for replacement in the machines as needed. Discards old and used tips and inserts into proper recycling containers.
- Identifies product upon completion of machining as instructed.
- Requires no supervision except occasional work orders.
- Performs all other miscellaneous duties as assigned by Supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Manufacturing experience preferred.
- Must be available to work all three shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
