Job Summary

A well-established, multi-specialty pathology practice is seeking a Board-Certified AP/CP Hematopathologist to serve as Medical Director for a two-hospital health system in Providence, Rhode Island. This leadership opportunity is ideal for an experienced pathologist with expertise in Hematopathology, Surgical Pathology, and Clinical Laboratory Operations who is looking to play an integral role in delivering high-quality diagnostic services while overseeing laboratory operations.

The Medical Director will collaborate closely with clinicians, hospital leadership, and laboratory staff to ensure the highest standards of patient care, quality, and regulatory compliance across multiple hospital locations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Medical Director for pathology services across a two-hospital health system.
  • Provide expert diagnostic interpretation in Surgical Pathology.
  • Utilize Hematopathology expertise in the diagnosis and management of hematologic disorders.
  • Oversee and support Clinical Laboratory operations to ensure quality, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with physicians, hospital administration, and laboratory personnel to optimize patient care and laboratory performance.
  • Participate in quality assurance, quality improvement, accreditation, and regulatory initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to laboratory and pathology staff.
  • Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Foster strong relationships with referring physicians and healthcare partners.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, medical staff committees, and organizational leadership activities.
  • Contribute to practice growth and continuous process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP).
  • Fellowship training or significant experience in Hematopathology.
  • Eligible for or currently holding an unrestricted Rhode Island medical license.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within a hospital or health system preferred.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional, patient-centered pathology services.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience serving in a Medical Director or laboratory leadership role.
  • Expertise in Surgical Pathology and Hematopathology.
  • Experience overseeing Clinical Laboratory operations.
  • Familiarity with CAP, CLIA, and Joint Commission regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
