Purpose Statement:

Provide services to high ability students in grades 3-8. Support classroom teachers with high ability instruction. Assist the instructional coach and teachers in the identification of high ability students. Elevate CSD awareness by working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds. Encourage parent and community involvement by participating in appropriate professional activities.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide services for high ability students in grades 3-8.
  • Support classroom teachers with high ability instruction strategies.
  • Assist the high ability coordinator in the identification of high ability students.
  • Administer NWEA & CogAT assessments.
  • Participate in the high ability broad based planning committee.
  • Support families with questions about high ability identification and instruction.
  • Complete administrative tasks as requested by the high ability coordinator or principal.
  • Assist the instructional coach in planning for effective and strategic improvement for high ability instruction and 4-8 programming.
  • Assist instructional coach with professional development for classroom teachers.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans that facilitate active learning.
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities.
  • Participate in department, school, and parent meetings.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Prepare class activities.
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for teachers.
  • Observe and evaluate students performance and development.
  • Promptly return phone calls and answer emails
  • Proactively communicate with parents/guardians about student information

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Assist in arrival and dismissal supervision

Qualifications:

Knowledge of:

  • High Ability curriculum and instruction techniques.

Skill in:

  • Using a computer and related software applications.
  • Using modern office equipment.

Ability to:

  • High Ability evaluating and elevating the program and students.
  • Keep supervisor, teacher and parents informed of students' progress.

Education and Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, students, parents, and the public. Demonstrate successful teaching experience. Experience in providing professional development in best instructional practices for high ability learners preferred.

Certification

  • State teaching license
  • Licensed high ability teacher (required)
