With a history of limited and expensive Internet access and other scarce resources, the Town could not previously advance as a crucial resource during times of economic hardship or serial weather emergencies. Civic leadership, businesses, schools, churches, nonprofits, and volunteers work collaboratively to host festivals, improve public spaces, etc. Gassaway's willingness to innovate, combined with its grassroots networks, makes it an ideal environment for capacity-building initiatives. By partnering with AmeriCorps, Gassaway seeks to improve its own outdated organizational capacity, develop crucial outreach to our residents and schools, and utilize what capability the Town currently possesses to provide information about resources for telehealth, services, skills training and on-line education to address unemployment, virtual employment opportunities, and volunteerism. Member Duties : Enhance the town's capability to communicate its services, provide and assist in identifying opportunities for families, from the elderly through to the primary school-agers. Improve efficiency in the town's operations, an established media presence, and community engagement. Gassaway most recently has been depending on the internet for skills training and communicating with residents. They will begin there. Learning and then teaching in sequence. Even in rural West Virginia, there are dozens of ways to connect. They will be encouraged to choose their particular area/group/ interest and explore it. Member will engage with each student three times , once at the beginning of the academic year, mid-academic year and close to school year end with the student keeping journal entries weekly on the social skill they choose.
