Mabton High School Assistant Volleyball Coach

Primary Function:

A High School Assistant Volleyball Coach has the responsibility to help students develop skills

and knowledge with the district's athletic handbook and goals that will contribute to the

students' development as mature, able and responsible adults. Assistant Volleyball Coaches

are responsible for maintaining a safe environment on and off campus. They are responsible

for maintaining records of students and equipment. To assist the Head Coach in all duties that

apply while teaching the game of Volleyball.

Directly Responsible To: High School Athletic Director and School Administration

Description of Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as a positive role model to the athletes and parent

  2. Teach Volleyball techniques, rules, strategies and tactics

  3. Condition athletes appropriately for activities requiring endurance, strength and agility

  4. Preside over team activities including all scheduled team practices and meets

  5. Teach sportsmanship, cooperation, work ethic and responsibility to one's team

  6. Monitor athletes personal conduct during games

  7. Manage equipment and playing facilities in a responsible manner

  8. Performs related duties as required

  9. Hold a valid first aid/CPR/AED card to comply with Mabton School District policy and

procedures

  1. Demonstrated working knowledge of the above-mentioned sport

  2. Coaching experience preferred

  3. Demonstrated interest in and ability to work well with multicultural High School

students, staff and community

  1. Promote the sport, within WIAA guidelines, complete all required WIAA Coaches Clinics

and requirements

  1. Inventory, selection, care, maintenance of equipment and play surfaces

  2. Perform such other related duties as may be assigned by the Athletic Director and

School Administration

  1. Cultural Competency; ability to effectively work with diverse populations

Other Functions:

  1. Follow oral and written instructions

  2. Work cooperatively with other

  3. Be neat, orderly and honest

  4. Work weekdays, practice after school

  5. Interpret policies and procedures

  6. Travel with teams for matches during the week

  7. Work with people of all ages

  8. On a continuous basis, work outdoors; intermittently travel to various off-site

locations; may be exposed to dust, noise, hard surfaces, and may be exposed to

varying temperature conditions while performing work

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Ability to work well with children of various ages; basic knowledge of Volleyball

  2. Willingness to learn and follow District rules and guidelines regarding youth sports

  3. Prior coaching experience is helpful, but not required

  4. Education/experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely

provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying

  1. Previous experience in coaching children in some type of sport

  2. Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at

a level necessary for successful coaching performance

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Completion of high school diploma or

  2. Must be 18 years of age or older

  3. Complete Washington State Patrol Criminal History background check

MENTAL DEMANDS

? Required to deal with a wide range of student, staff and public behaviors and needs in

a positive and service-oriented manner.

? May occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students or parents.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

? Physical capabilities require lifting and carrying, pushing and/or pulling, stooping,

kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and significant finger dexterity.

? Generally the job requires approximately 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45%

standing.

? Maintaining good hygiene is essential.
