Position Overview
The High School Boys Basketball Coach is responsible for leading, developing, and mentoring student-athletes while building a positive, competitive, disciplined, and successful basketball program. The coach will provide leadership both on and off the court and serve as a positive role model for student-athletes.
The coach is expected to promote teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, accountability, respect, character development, and academic success while supporting the overall mission and values of the school.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct organized, productive, and age-appropriate practices focused on skill development, teamwork, conditioning, and game preparation.
- Teach and develop fundamental basketball skills, knowledge of the game, strategy, and decision-making.
- Establish clear team goals, expectations, standards, and a positive team culture.
- Prepare for and coach scheduled games, tournaments, and postseason activities, including game strategy, player rotations, substitutions, and in-game adjustments.
- Evaluate student-athlete performance and provide constructive feedback to support individual and team development.
- Monitor student-athlete attendance, behavior, academic progress, and eligibility and communicate concerns appropriately with school staff.
- Promote good sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, accountability, leadership, and respect.
- Maintain professional and positive communication with student-athletes, parents/guardians, teachers, athletic staff, and school administration.
- Ensure that all practices, games, travel, and team activities follow school policies, athletic department procedures, and applicable league or association requirements.
- Provide appropriate supervision and maintain a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all student-athletes.
- Maintain team rosters, schedules, attendance records, equipment, and other required documentation.
- Properly use and care for school athletic facilities, uniforms, and equipment.
- Work collaboratively with other basketball coaches to establish consistent expectations and promote player development throughout the basketball program.
- Attend required coaches' meetings, athletic department meetings, games, tournaments, and professional development activities.
- Support school events, athletic activities, and community events as requested.
- Represent the school and its values in a professional and positive manner at all times.
- Encourage student-athletes to maintain a healthy balance between academics, athletics, character development, and other school responsibilities.
- Build positive relationships with families and the school community to encourage support and engagement with the basketball program.
Qualifications
- Previous basketball coaching experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, rules, strategy, and player development.
- Experience working with high school student-athletes preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate, encourage, and develop student-athletes with different levels of experience and ability.
- Ability to work effectively with school administration, teachers, athletic staff, parents, and other coaches.
- Commitment to student-athlete safety, academic achievement, character development, and overall well-being.
- Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with student-athletes.
- Must meet all school, league, and applicable background-check and coaching requirements.

Schedule and Commitment
The coach is expected to commit to the full basketball season and participate in all responsibilities associated with the program, including regular practices, scheduled home and away games, tournaments, postseason activities, team meetings, player-development activities, and required athletic department meetings.
The coach should also be available to support basketball-related events and activities outside of the regular practice and game schedule when necessary.
Additional Responsibilities
The coach will perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Athletic Director or school administration to ensure the effective operation and continued success of the sport program.

Compensation will be determined based on coaching experience, qualifications, responsibilities, and the school's athletic department compensation structure
