The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) Public Safety Training Academy (PSTA) is a premier training facility dedicated to preparing firefighters, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and paramedics for the challenges of modern emergency response. The High School Cadet program seeks to prepare students in the 11th and 12th grade for a career with MCFRS. These High School students receive entry level classes and high school credit while completing the hiring process to become full-time employees. Minimum Qualifications
Age: Twenty-one (21) years or older.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience, in either a paid or volunteer capacity, in performing duties and responsibilities associated with fire suppression and/or emergency medical services (EMS).
Education: Graduation from high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland or a high school equivalency diploma.
License: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicants state of residence appropriate to the equipment operated by an employee in the discipline assigned.
Training/Certifications:
Applicant must have completed the following training courses:
Continuation in this class requires the ability to obtain and maintain Maryland Instructor Certification Review Board (MICRB) certification as an Emergency Services Instructor in the appropriate discipline assigned.

Leave Benefits
Our generous leave package starts with non-MLS permanent and term employees earning 15 days of sick leave and 15 days of annual leave in their first year, as well as up to three additional personal days each calendar year. Positions in MLS earn 35 days of paid time off each year. In addition, we offer all employees 10 paid holidays. Retirement Benefits
All permanent and term positions are eligible for robust retirement plans. Public safety positions are eligible for a defined benefit pension plan in which they are vested after only five years. Employees in non-public safety positions can participate in retirement plans that contribute up to 12 percent of their annual salary. All employees can also participate in a supplemental retirement plan, the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, to contribute even more to their retirement goals.
