Spotsylvanias Career and Technical Center is seeking a highly skilled and qualifiedInstructortoplan and provideengaging learning experiences for studentsin the field of Carpentry.
Our Career and Technical Education Instructors develop and implement instructional programs that effectively provide the best possible education for each and every student.
Additionally this role will leverage strong communication skills to collaborate with colleagues parents and stakeholders to support student success.
Course Description
Carpentry I
Carpentry I provides students with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to begin a career in the construction industry. Emphasizing workplace and jobsite safety students learn the proper use of hand and power tools material measurement and cutting basic construction mathematics blueprint reading and introductory rigging concepts. Students also gain experience identifying and constructing common residential building components including wall floor ceiling and roof framing as well as door and window installation. Upon successful completion students earn the Construction Industry OSHA 10 safety credential.
Carpentry II
Carpentry II builds on the skills introduced in Carpentry I and prepares students for entry into postsecondary education and careers in carpentry and related fields such as construction management and architecture. Students expand their proficiency with industry-standard hand and power tools while applying advanced construction techniques. Instruction focuses on assembling and installing residential construction components according to industry standards including foundations floor and wall framing ceilings roofs trusses roofing materials stairs and exterior doors and windows. Students continue to reinforce industry safety practices and apply their OSHA 10 credential knowledge in hands-on projects.
Carpentry III
Carpentry III is an advanced course designed to deepen students technical knowledge and practical construction skills. Students explore specialized carpentry areas such as deck and porch construction alternative framing methods interior finishing drywall installation and energy-efficient building practices including green technologies. The course also introduces students to industry licensure requirements business structures and entrepreneurial opportunities within the construction field.
Essential Functions
Designs instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter current instructional practices students industry and curriculum goals as outlined by the VA Department of Education Career and Technical Education Programs
Develops authentic engaging hands-on learning lessons and evaluates student progress provides students with prompt specific evaluative feedback maintains appropriate records and prepare progress reports
Implements a classroom management policy that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff
Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law Spotsylvania County School Board policy and administrative regulation
Develops and maintains contacts and partnerships with local industry professionals
Develops maintains and supervises clinical experiences for culinary students
Remainscurrent with changes that occur in the industry and discipline of culinary professionals
Ensures compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agency requirements

Education and Experience
Required
Bachelors Degree in an applicable field of education -OR- the equivalent in credentialing training andor applied trade experience
Ability to obtain additionalappropriate licenses andor endorsements as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
Carpentry Endorsement
OSHA Train the Trainer Certification
Two 2 to five 5 years successful experience in commercial or residential construction
Preferred
Currently possesses a Technical Professional License within a specific endorsement areas
Carpentry Endorsement
Prior teaching experience within a vocational educational program
