Established in 2011 by NBA Star Jalen Rose and Co-Founder Michael Carter, JRLA is located on the Northwest side of Detroit in the zip code where Jalen grew up. An open enrollment, tuition-free, public charter high school, JRLA provides a leadership-focused education to 420 scholars and nearly 1,000 alumni. The mission is to empower all scholars to develop the strength of character, skills, and knowledge needed to matriculate, be great in, and graduate from college or a postsecondary program so that they have the opportunities to be successful in the competitive world and take care of themselves and the people they love.
Built around a 9-16 model, JRLA has never wavered in its pursuit to improve the educational landscape for Detroit area youth. Job Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated High School Chemistry Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will inspire students through engaging lesson plans, hands-on experiments, and a strong commitment to fostering a positive learning environment. The successful applicant will demonstrate expertise in chemistry and a deep understanding of best practices in science education.
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:
Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that meet the curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles.
Deliver curriculum that covers key concepts in chemistry, including but not limited to atomic structure, chemical bonding, reactions, stoichiometry, and thermodynamics.
Organize and conduct laboratory experiments that align with the curriculum and safety protocols.
Ensure that all materials and equipment are maintained and properly handled.
Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, labs, and presentations.
Collaborate with colleagues to align curricula and participate in ongoing professional development initiatives.
Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.
Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students
Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff
Regular and predictable attendance
Uphold professional ethics and standards as an educator and a member of the Jaguar family.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Education, or a related field.
Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with an endorsement in the subject.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities.
Strong understanding of chemistry concepts and ability to convey complex information in an accessible manner.
Provide measurable data driven results on resume
Possess strong classroom management skills and the ability to inspire and motivate high school scholars
Excellent communicator with professional interpersonal skills
Work independently
