TITLE: High School English Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proper certification and licensing as required by law.
  • Bachelors Degree in English, Education, or related field required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of literature, writing instruction, and language arts standards.
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

REPORTS TO:

The Building-Level Principal and the Superintendent

JOB GOAL:

To develop in each student the ability to read, write, speak, and think critically; to foster an appreciation for literature and language; and to build communication skills necessary for academic success, career readiness, and lifelong learning.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches English language arts skills, including reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and listening, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Instructs students in the analysis and interpretation of a variety of literary genres, including novels, short stories, poetry, drama, and informational texts.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials that align with curriculum standards and support diverse learning needs.
  • Provides learning experiences that promote critical thinking, discussion, and effective written and oral communication.
  • Assigns and evaluates student writing, providing constructive feedback to improve clarity, organization, and style.
  • Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of individual students, including small group and individualized support.
  • Incorporates technology and digital resources to enhance instruction and student engagement.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior necessary to provide an orderly and productive classroom environment.
  • Evaluates student progress in reading, writing, and communication skills in relation to grade-level expectations.
  • Communicates regularly with parents/guardians and school counselors regarding student progress and needs.
  • Identifies student needs and collaborates with colleagues to support academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Participates in curriculum development, data analysis, and instructional improvement initiatives.
  • Maintains professional competence through professional development, workshops, and continued study of best practices in English instruction.
  • Performs such other tasks as may from time to time be assigned by the Principal or Superintendent, and within local contract/policy, state, and federal regulations.

Salary established by the Master Contractual Agreement
