Summary

Colville School District is now accepting applications for a High School Head Track and Field Coach for the 2026-2027 school year to lead and oversee the entire K-12 program. This position is responsible for teaching and coaching student-athletes, fostering a positive and inclusive environment, and ensuring full compliance with WIAA Interscholastic Rules and Regulations. Extracurricular positions are for one year only.

Essential Duties

  • Work as a positive and collaborative member of the Colville School District athletic staff, supporting the core goals of the athletics program, Colville High School, and the Colville School District.
  • Create and promote a positive environment for all student-athletes that nurtures self-esteem, strong values, and life-long learning while coaching the varsity team (grades 9-12).
  • Model high standards of morality, integrity, character, and sportsmanship; serve as a positive role model for students and uphold the highest ethical standards.
  • Demonstrate patience, enthusiasm, and encouragement while supporting each players growth and development.
  • Establish program goals, objectives, and philosophical guidelines and communicate them to the Athletic Director, feeder coaches, parents, and the community.
  • Delegate coaching responsibilities effectively to all assistant coaches.
  • Provide feeder coaches with guidance on drills, techniques, and disciplinary procedures to ensure program continuity and consistency.
  • Conduct preseason meetings and conferences with the coaching staff.
  • Complete required annual WIAA online rules clinics.
  • Evaluate athletes during early-season practices to determine team placement and/or cuts.
  • Oversee summer camps, summer programs (weightlifting, open gym, etc.), and supervise all off-season programs..
  • Seek growth as a coach by attending camps, clinics, and training opportunities to stay current on trends and coaching techniques.
  • Promote the athletic program enthusiastically within the school district, local media, and the broader community.
  • Manage bench coaching duties during varsity matches and delegate additional responsibilities to assistant coaches.
  • Plan and conduct well-organized, vigorous practices with daily schedules that outline clear objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director to minimize student classroom time missed due to athletics.
  • Supervise locker room before, during, and after all practices and games, ensuring no student-athlete is unsupervised.
  • Coordinate with Athletic Director regarding all transportation needs and requests; ensure all bus pick-ups and drop-offs occur at the rear of the school.
  • Maintain discipline during all bus trips and athletic events.
  • Ensure that all student-athletes have transportation home after practices or game; once the last student leaves campus, lock and secure all doors.
  • Use Final Forms to maintain eligibility, inventory, and attendance records.
  • Maintain a current first-aid card and ensure a copy is on file with the Athletic Director and HR.
  • Have a current favorable reporting of a state and national fingerprinting background check on file with the Colville School District.
  • Carry medical information/waiver forms and a medical first aid kit at all times.
  • Oversee the cleanliness of all facilities.
  • Check out and check in all equipment and uniforms to student-athletes; maintain accurate pre-season and post-season inventories and submit records to the Athletic Director by required deadlines.
  • Coordinate with the Athletic Director to ensure game-day operations-including games crew, field/court set-up, and officials-are in place for each home contest.
  • Check out keys from the High School Office Secretary and return them within two weeks of the seasons conclusion.
  • Complete and submit accident report forms to the High School within 24 hours of any incident.
  • Represent Colville High School and the Colville School District in a manner that reflects the highest standards of sportsmanship.
  • Support all Colville School District extracurricular activities through positive actions and words.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Two to four years of related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
  • A favorable reporting of a state and national background check is required.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts as needed.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) is preferred.
  • A valid first aid/CPR card on file with the Athletic Director and HR; must also attend an annual HIV/Hepatitis B training seminar with documentation maintained by the Colville School District office.
  • Current documentation on file meeting all requirements for the Coaches Standards and Education Program.
