High School Instructional Coach - Humanities West Springfield High School

West Springfield Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable educator to serve as the Instructional Coach for Humanities at West Springfield High School.

The Instructional Coach is an instructional leader who works collaboratively with teachers, coaches and administrators to improve teaching and learning primarily in English Language Arts and Social Studies. This role reports to the Building Principal and supports school committee policies and the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The primary focus of this position is to lead coaching cycles and design and deliver high-quality professional development aligned to the needs of the school.

This position is ideal for an educator passionate about adult learning, instructional leadership, and improving outcomes for all students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of a strong, collaborative culture focused on high-quality instruction in humanities classrooms.
  • Lead and facilitate ongoing instructional coaching cycles, including goal setting, co-planning, modeling, observation, and feedback.
  • Work directly with teachers to improve instructional practices, with a focus on student engagement, rigor, and achievement.
  • Design and deliver high-quality, data-informed professional development aligned to school and district priorities.
  • Use student performance data and classroom evidence to identify instructional trends, strengths, and areas for growth.
  • Provide demonstration lessons and model effective instructional strategies in humanities classrooms.
  • Collaborate with department leaders and administration to align curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
  • Support the development and implementation of common assessments and curriculum materials.
  • Promote culturally responsive teaching practices and inclusive instructional strategies.
  • Participate in and contribute to school and district-based initiatives and committees.
  • Communicate regularly with the Principal, Assistant Principal of Curriculum, department heads, and district leadership regarding instructional priorities and progress.
  • Model professionalism, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the High School Principal.

Requirements:

  • Current Massachusetts license in English Language Arts (5-12), History (5-12), or a related humanities field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks in ELA and/or History/Social Studies.
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrated expertise in effective instructional practices in humanities education.
  • Experience facilitating professional development for educators.
  • Experience in instructional coaching or teacher leadership roles preferred.
  • Strong understanding of data-driven instruction and assessment practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to facilitate adult learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive, collaborative relationships with staff.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and reflective practice.
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience with evidence of strong student outcomes.

Salary: Per Unit A Contract Salary Range: $53,939 - $101,108
