POSITION SUMMARY
Potterville Public Schools is seeking a passionate and student-centered Secondary Mathematics Teacher to join our Vikings team. The successful candidate will deliver rigorous, standards-aligned mathematics instruction to junior and senior high school students, fostering strong conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and mathematical confidence. The teacher will collaborate with colleagues across the secondary level to support student achievement on M-STEP, PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, and SAT assessments, while preparing students for post-secondary success.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS: Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement for the assigned subject and grade band(s) 5-9, 7-12.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in the subject area or in Education; Master's preferred
- Valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate with Mathematics (EX) endorsement appropriate for secondary grade levels assigned
- Valid CPR/First Aid certification (required for initial Michigan certification)
- Demonstrated knowledge of content standards, assessment practices, and instructional strategies for secondary learners, including the Michigan K-12 Mathematics Standards and Common Core State Standards
- Successful completion of all required background checks (ICHAT, FBI fingerprint, and unprofessional conduct disclosure per MCL 380.1230b and 380.1230d)
- Evidence of effective oral and written communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or related field
- Prior knowledge of Capturing Kids Hearts and a commitment to positive behavior support and relationship-building
- Prior successful teaching experience at the secondary level
- Additional endorsements such as Special Education, ESL, or Gifted & Talented; endorsements across grade bands are a plus
- Experience with Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and data-driven instruction
- Familiarity with PSAT/SAT preparation and College Board resources
- Experience using Learning Management Systems (Google Classroom, Canvas) and instructional technology
- Experience teaching dual-enrollment or advanced coursework (Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, Calculus)
- Willingness to sponsor a co-curricular activity, club, or coach an athletic team
SUBJECT-AREA EXPERTISE
- Ability to teach across the secondary mathematics sequence, which may include Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, and/or dual-enrollment courses based on certification and program needs
- Proficiency with instructional technology including Desmos, GeoGebra, graphing calculators, and Google Workspace for Education
- Knowledge of vertical alignment between middle school and high school mathematics pathways
- Ability to differentiate instruction for students with IEPs, 504 plans, English Learners, and students requiring enrichment
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan, prepare, and deliver standards-aligned mathematics lessons that engage all learners and promote conceptual understanding alongside procedural fluency
- Implement the district-adopted curriculum and pacing guides while exercising professional judgment to meet student needs
- Use a variety of instructional strategies including direct instruction, collaborative problem-solving, mathematical discourse, and inquiry-based learning
- Integrate appropriate technology to enhance student learning and prepare students for digital assessments
- Develop and administer formative and summative assessments aligned to learning targets
- Implement Capturing Kids Heart program
- Implement positive behavior supports and consistent classroom management aligned with building expectations
- Build positive relationships with students and serve as a caring adult who supports the whole child
- Implement accommodations and modifications outlined in IEPs, 504 plans, and ELL plans
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and inclusive classroom that fosters positive relationships and high expectations
Student Achievement & Data
- Analyze student performance data (M-STEP, PSAT, NWEA, common assessments, classroom evidence) to inform instruction and intervention
- Participate in MTSS processes including identification of students for Tier 2 & Tier 3 supports
- Set rigorous, measurable student growth goals as part of the district evaluation system
- Communicate student progress regularly with students and families through gradebook, conferences, and other communication tools
Professional Collaboration
- Participate actively in PLCs, department meetings, building staff meetings, and district professional development
- Collaborate with special education staff, counselors, interventionists, and administrators to support student success
- Contribute to vertical alignment work between the junior high and senior high mathematics programs
- Engage in continuous professional learning and reflective practice
Family & Community Engagement
- Communicate proactively and respectfully with parents and guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and successes
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences, open houses, curriculum nights, and other school events
- Represent Potterville Public Schools positively in the broader community
Other Duties
- Supervise students during assigned duties (hallways, lunch, arrival/dismissal, etc.)
- Maintain accurate records including attendance, grades, lesson plans, and required documentation
- Comply with all federal, state, and district policies, including FERPA, Title IX, and mandated reporter requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee
PHYSICAL & WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom and building for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally (instructional materials, equipment)
- Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to monitor students and respond to safety concerns
